Denmark Social Media Ban 2025: No Social Media for Kids Under 15 | Major Step for Mental Health

Denmark Social Media Ban 2025

Denmark Social Media Ban : The Danish government has made a big decision. Now children under the age of 15 will not be able to use social media.

This decision has been made to improve the mental health of children, because children were becoming anxious, irritable and depressed due to excessive use of social media .

If parents give permission, children 13 years of age and older will be able to use some apps with parental supervision .

Why is the government taking this step?

Denmark Social Media Ban 2025

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said it was important to protect children from the negative effects of social media. Minister for Digital Affairs Caroline Stig Olsen said:

“Social media is taking away our children’s time, childhood, and happiness.”

He said that it is time for us to take children away from mobile phones and apps so that they can spend more time studying, playing, and in real life .

How much do children in Denmark use social media?

According to reports, Danish children spend about 2 hours and 40 minutes on social media every day. They mostly use TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat .

Experts say that too much screen time is causing sleep deprivation, irritability, and attention deficits
in children. That’s why the government wants children to participate in less social media and more real-life activities .

Support in Parliament

Most Danish political parties support this decision, which means the law will be passed soon.
All have the same goal  to protect children from stress and online dangers.

Other countries have also taken steps

Denmark is not alone. Australia also passed a law last year that prohibits children under 16 from using social media. Many countries around the world are now introducing new online safety laws for children .

This law reminds us that,

“Technology is important, but the health and happiness of children is more important.”
