It may come as a surprise to hear this, but this new business trend is now becoming increasingly popular called wedding nanny services .

A wedding nanny is a nanny or childcare specialist who looks after children at weddings or big events so that parents can enjoy the event without worry. Although this culture is not yet widespread in India, it is in high demand in the United States .

Sandra Weir of New York calls herself a “wedding nanny.” Her job is to keep children at weddings safe and busy, so that the adults don’t have any problems during the ceremony. For this job, she charges about $1,000 (88,000 rupees) a day.

How did this unique business start?

Sandra had been babysitting for almost 11 years . When she was assigned to watch four children at a wedding in 2024, several guests asked her if she offered such services at weddings. That’s when she had a new idea and she launched her own service, which she called Wedding Nanny NYC .

Today, his team goes to events wearing black T-shirts with the company logo and takes care of all the arrangements for the children, such as games, art, stories, and bedtime , so parents can enjoy the event in peace.

How much is the fee and what does the team do?

Sandra’s service starts at $1,000 (approximately Rs. 88,000) , which includes 12 hours of childcare . If there are more children, she goes with her team, charging $65 (approximately Rs. 5,800 per hour) for each additional nanny .

Before each event, Sandra meets with the children’s parents to learn about their behavior, habits, preferences, allergies, and safety concerns. The goal is to make the children feel a part of the event and the parents enjoy it with satisfaction.

Can this idea succeed in India?

The concept of a nanny or nanny is not new in India it is common for wealthy families to hire a nanny to look after their children. However, it is now being done in a more professional and organized manner.

The demand for trained nannies or “japa caregivers” to look after children is growing rapidly among working parents in big cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru .

According to an estimate, India’s childcare industry was worth around Rs 83,600 crore in 2024 , and will grow to over Rs 1.21 lakh crore by 2033 meaning there are huge business opportunities in this field.

What are the challenges in India?

Although this trend is growing rapidly in big cities, people in smaller towns still rely more on relatives or domestic workers to care for children .

The profession has not yet become popular in India due to safety, background checks, and lack of legal regulations.

However, over time, as awareness grows, services like wedding nannying could become a part of Indian weddings where tradition and modern conveniences will co exist.
