Nipa Chowrangi Roads Blocked as Protest Breaks Out Over Child Falling Into Open Manhole : Three-year-old Ibrahim fell into an open manhole outside a department store near Nipa Bridge in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Rescue teams reached the spot with limited resources. The working staff said that they were not provided with the required machinery by any department.
The child’s mother kept screaming for help and constantly calling her son’s name, while teams from Rescue 1122 and Edhi Marine Services entered the sewer lines and searched. The parents said that the child had come out of the store with his parents. He suddenly ran forward and climbed onto the edge of a drain covered with cardboard. The cardboard burst and he fell straight into the manhole.
His father Nabil, giving details, said that he had come from Shah Faisal Colony with his wife and son for shopping. He had parked his motorcycle near the same open manhole. According to him, he saw Ibrahim fall into it before his eyes. Nabil said that Ibrahim was three years old and his only son. The search operation continued while the family waited at the spot.
The child’s grandfather asked the media why manholes are left open when parking fees are collected. He appealed to the Sindh Governor, Sindh Chief Minister and Murtaza Wahab to ensure a complete rescue operation.
The incident at Nipa Chowrangi soon turned into a public protest. People blocked roads, burned tires, and blocked all routes from Nipa to Hassan Square, Karachi University, and Gulshan Chowrangi.
The investigation into this tragic incident at Nipa Chowrangi is still ongoing, while the relevant authorities have taken action due to increasing public pressure.
