PhonePe’s new feature: A great way to avoid online fraud
PhonePe New Update : In today’s digital age, most people send or receive money through UPI. This method is fast and convenient, but with it, cases of online fraud have also increased rapidly. In particular, incidents of sending money to fake QR codes and wrong numbers have become common.
To address these issues, PhonePe has launched a new security feature called “PhonePe Protect . ”
This feature is designed to protect users from fraud, so that they are warned before sending money.

How does PhonePe Protect work?
Whenever a user sends money from PhonePe, the app automatically checks the number against the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) ‘s Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI) database.
If the number is on the “Very High Risk ” list , PhonePe immediately stops the transaction and a message appears on the screen:
“PhonePe Protect Transaction Blocked”
If the number is on the Medium Risk list, the app warns:
“This number has been used in a fraudulent transaction before. Do you wish to proceed?”
The user can proceed if they wish, but PhonePe also explains why the transaction was stopped so the user can fully understand.
Why is this feature important?
UPI transactions have grown rapidly in India, but with it, fraud cases have also increased. Earlier, people did not know that the number they were sending money to could be fraudulent.
Now, with the help of PhonePe Protect, the user is warned in advance so that he does not accidentally send money to a fraudster.
This feature is not only useful for security but also for user education. When a user receives a threat notification, he makes more informed decisions. This update will help keep more than 610 million users safe.
A few precautions while using PhonePe Protect
- Always check the number and name carefully before sending money.
- If you get a “PhonePe Protect” alert, don’t ignore it, think carefully.
- When scanning a QR code, make sure the code is real and not fake.
- Always have a strong UPI PIN and keep the app updated.
- If money is sent by mistake, contact the bank or PhonePe customer service immediately.
